Several hundred anti-immigration protesters faced off with counter-protesters in the centre of Portsmouth on Saturday, as the southern English port city found itself at the heart of Britain’s increasingly acrimonious immigration debate. Under a heavy police presence, approximately 400 protesters marched into the centre of town for a second weekend, chanting slogans hostile to migrants.
